Canada Summer Jobs – Program Assistant (3 positions available)

The Gatehouse Child Abuse Investigation & Support Site
35 hours per week | 8-week contract

Rate of Pay $18 per hour
July 6, 2026 to August 31, 2026
Location: Toronto, Ontario

The Gatehouse Child Abuse Investigation & Support Site is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated Program Assistant through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in social services, mental health, community development, communications, or non-profit work.

The Gatehouse supports adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse through peer support groups, counselling, expressive arts programming, education, advocacy, and community initiatives.

Position Overview

The Program Assistant will support the daily operations of The Gatehouse and assist staff with programs, outreach, communications, administration, and special projects. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in a trauma-informed community setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative duties including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and data entry
  • Support client intake processes and scheduling appointments
  • Assist with program preparation, coordination, and participant support
  • Help create social media content, newsletters, and promotional materials
  • Support outreach to community organizations and partners
  • Assist with updating resources, workbooks, and program materials
  • Support fundraising initiatives, grant research, and special events
  • Help maintain accurate statistics and documentation
  • Assist with community events and workshops as needed
  • Assist with accounting related duties including data entry and report generation. No accounting experience needed. Training will be provided.
  • Other duties as assigned based on organizational needs

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with social media platforms and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace
  • Interest in trauma-informed care, mental health, social justice, or community services
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Experience in non-profit, social services, or community work is considered an asset

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
