Reading List

Books that inspire, educate, and support personal healing journeys.

This list covers topics discussed during the Gatehouse’s Phase 1 Peer Support Program. It was designed to provide additional resources for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This guide lists books that address common struggles faced by adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. It is also helpful for parents and supporters seeking resources to better understand and support survivors. The goal of this guide is to:

  • Provide reading material for survivors, parents, and supporters.
  • Encourage readers to critically assess the relevance of content based on their unique needs.
  • Highlight that some books, while foundational, may contain outdated or less inclusive information.

Each book includes a brief description and links for borrowing or purchasing. Audio versions are provided when available to accommodate diverse accessibility needs. Some materials are available through The Gatehouse Library. Readers are encouraged to select parts of books that resonate with their experiences and goals and approach the material critically and adapt it to their personal context.
